The Buffalo Grove High School band program is made up from over 170 students divided into Concert and Symphonic Bands. The Symphonic and Concert Bands are part of a comprehensive music program at Buffalo Grove High School. They meet one period a day and receive academic credit. Other performance opportunities in the band program include two Jazz Ensembles, Marching Band, Pep Band, and numerous ensembles. The Buffalo Grove Bands participate in various festivals throughout the Mid-West and have consistently been recognized for excellence in concert, jazz, and marching performances. The Jazz Band rehearses after school and on evenings and receives academic credit. The Marching and Pep Bands consist of members from the Symphonic and Concert Bands and perform at home football and basketball games, as well as at other selected community events.
The Buffalo Grove High School Symphonic Band was selected to perform at the 2003 Illinois Music Educators All-State Conference in Peoria, Illinois. This is one of the highest honors that can be bestowed upon a program or director. This honor serves to validate for our school and community the high level of musicianship and performance of this group. The Symphonic Band also performs regularly at the Pick-Staiger Concert Hall at Northwestern University. Both the Symphonic and Concert Bands have been recording their live performances on to compact discs. On average, three to four discs are produced each year, documenting the growth, progress, and history of the BGHS Band Program.
The bands are directed by Ed Jacobi

In 2004 he received the Principal's Award as the outstanding educator of the year at Buffalo Grove High School. In 2007 Mr. Jacobi had the great honor of directing the Illinois All-State Jazz Band at the All-State Music Conference in Peoria, Illinois. Very few high school music educators have ever had that opportunity, and he is the first one from School District 214 to ever do so.
In 2008 he directed the Southwest Conference Honor Jazz Band in Lockport, Illinois. Over the past 20 years he has been the District 214 Honor Band Coordinator, organizing the the wind and percussion ensemble that comprises the best musicians in all six District 214 band programs.
