"We Play for Them"
The Buffalo Grove High School Band Program continues to recognize Corey Diamond and Elliott Cellini. As we continue to heal and move forward, we remember Corey through the Corey Diamond Memorial Scholarship. As Elliott returns to Buffalo Grove High School, we are encouraged by his determination to be involved in our school community and music family. In the year that would have been their senior year together, we as a band program will continue to honor them, comfort their families, and support each other through our musical performances. The greatest lesson we have all learned is to value the quality time we have together.
Approved by the Buffalo Grove Instrumental Association (BGIA) December 4, 2006
On July 23, 2006, Corey Diamond, a trumpet player from the Buffalo Grove High School Band, as an innocent victim, lost his life in a car crash. Corey was between his sophomore and junior year of high school, and was rising to a major leadership position in the band program. His sudden, tragic loss impacted our entire program, school and community. The Buffalo Grove Instrumental Association (BGIA) has made a commitment to establish a scholarship in Corey's memory. The commitment will be a minimum of $1000 a year for five consecutive years. If funding falls short of the five year goal, the BGIA will budget the difference to ensure that the obligation is met. A future board can determine continuation of the scholarship after five years. Funding for the scholarship will be coordinated through the BGIA.
Students selected to receive this scholarship will be those who most closely emulate Corey's passion, drive, and commitment to the band program.
The criteria of the scholarship follows:
1) Qualifying students must be seniors in good standing in the band program and community
2) Recipients of the award must participate in marching band their senior year
3) Scholarship recipients are chosen solely by the band director
4) Scholarships will be presented at the final band concert of the school year
5) At the discretion of the band director, more than one student can be awarded a partial share each year
6) Recipients of the award must demonstrate that they will be continuing their education beyond high school
