Students are strongly encouraged to study privately. Private lessons offer opportunities to students that cannot be attained in a large ensemble rehearsal. When students study privately with a professional on the instrument they play, they receive the benefit of oneon-one instruction, which has an immediate impact on musical development. By having a weekly lesson, students develop deadlines to learn material, which also helps to advance their overall musicianship.
Private lessons are not intended to be remedial; those who desire to be the best musicians study privately. The private teachers who come to our school are all excellent and have been screened by the school district. Students who study from these people can do so during ensemble rehearsal, lunch, or study hall (free period) or after school. A recommended list of private lesson teachers will be available in the Fall. Most instruments have a private teacher available to them at BGHS. Cost of the private lessons is borne by the individual.
